Package and deploy a custom search command

To use the custom search command app in another Splunk instance, you must first package the app so that it can be installed. After you package the app, you can deploy it so that other Splunk users can run the custom search command.

Package the custom search command app

Create a package for the custom search command app, so that users can install it using either Splunk Web or the command line.

A packaged app is a compressed tar archive (a .tar.gz tarball) with the .spl file extension. A packaged app contains an app.conf configuration file and an app manifest.

For more information about how to package your app, see Developer workflow in the Packaging Toolkit documentation.

Deploy the custom search command app

Deploy the custom search command app to make the custom search command available on other Splunk instances.

You can deploy the custom search command app onto a single instance or distributed environment. The specific deployment method that you use depends on the architecture of your Splunk system.

For more information about how to deploy your app, see App deployment overview in the Admin Manual.
