Splunk app developers: update your apps!

Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud 7.1 are now available. It's a great time to spring into action to update your apps to take advantage of the new features and to ensure that users can continue using your apps after upgrading to 7.1.

Take a look at our new look!

Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud have a "refreshed and crisp UI," (as mentioned in the full announcement blog post) providing apps with a modern look, and a lighter, flatter design. See how the Search app looks now:

A new base style gives a consistent look across Splunk products and web properties. Notice the updated font and see how tab view folders have gone away.

You probably won't have to make any changes to your apps to take advantage of the new look and feel—you'll just see a new refreshed look. But you might want to update any screenshots for your marketing collateral, and of course your Splunkbase app entries.

You have the opportunity to update your AppLogo and AppIcon images to adapt to the new style and color. You can see the improvements we made here:

Things to update for your apps

While we expect minimal impact to your apps, here are some things you should do:

  • Look for any text strings that might be too long and are wrapping due to the new font.
  • Review your custom controls—such as custom sliders, drop-downs, or other controls—against the new size and adjust as needed.
  • Check the appearance of your AppLogo and AppIcon images against the new appbar and background colors.
  • Take new screenshots of your apps for your documentation and for the app listings on Splunkbase.
  • Update your app entries in Splunkbase, and mark compatibility with version 7.1 so that users will see your apps in the new Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud releases.

Splunk users can't wait to see and use your apps with the new look!
